I intend to rant, whine and bitch about all and sundry on this blog, and intend to start with the fiacso that the corrections department have made of a family tragedy

When I was growing up in Porirua, I saw enough neighbours spend time on Her Majesties Service to not really be too phased by the association of jailtime and the person who had served it, time served, move on.

I am absolutely disgusted with the corrections department though, over the handling of the John Maeva funeral, and the way in which this family has been punished for being victims
How dare these clowns, who consistently allow convicted murders and insane nut cases loose on our unsuspecting public, claim that they fear their saftey so strongly as to refuse a father the right to bury his child!

For a very long time I have pro-activley supported stiffer sentencing, harsher punishments, longer stronger penalties and yes, even capital punishment. (I am setting a stage here, please bear with me)

I was disillusioned when Burton killed one of our well respected locals,  watched TV in utter horror the night the RSA killings were on the news and have actually been physically sick at the spate of infanticides we have seen in the last few years (the Kahui twins was just an abysmal betrayal of the New Zealand public and justice has never been served). Every person in that house should have been jailed without remand untill someone came clean, its that simple, and in any other developed country on this planet its what would have happened

And, now on the other extreme, the Corrections Department in all thier wisdom have chosen to  penalise a family of innocents, a family suffering through the worst and most horrid nightmare one could dream up in fair Aotearoa, the brutal loss of a beloved father, partner and son, John Maeva jr, slain on his lawn in the most cowardly and gutless manner, from behind, in sight of his family. Not only have they lost the breadwinner and anchor of thier family existence and the world ripped from under thier feet, Corrections decide to add to the burden!!!!!

It is well known that John Maeva snr made and sold methamphetimine, for profit or use is a moot point, he did it and he was guilty, as a result he was sentenced to jail and is serving his time.
One would think from my opening tone, I would be happy he is doing time, after all P is a scourge on our society, the root of 90% of all evil in New Zealand and the fuel of the insane violent turn our society has seen these last 10-15 years

Last week our wonderful defenders of society, the Department of Corrections refused this man the privelege of burying his son in person, refused this Whanau the grace and dignity of grieving as one, refused this man the right to say farewell to his child…..is this justice?
I deem it to be cruel and unfair punishment, I say this was an act of fascism, of some small minded heartless mongrel empowered by nothing more than a green coat and a badge on his shoulder boards to stroke his ego at this families expense, causing further pain and suffering unnecessarily to not just the prisoner, but to his extended family and the community as a whole

How can this be fair, when Graeme Burton and William Bell get out on parole, when prisoners in BOP can visit girlfriends and pubs while on so called “work parole”, but this most tragic of circumstances rates keeping this man, a drug dealer, behind bars while his child is placed in the ground……I just cant see the logic

To the Maeva family, my deepest heartfelt condolences, I write this in support and feel all of New Zealand will share your loss

To those with a sense of fair play, protest the actions of corrections and their cowardly behavior
Just ask yourself, would this have occured in regards to some white collar scumbag from Remuera who absconded with 5 million of pensionares funds, and still drives a masarati? Somehow, I dont think so, its a sure thing he would get berevment leave
